So, what now for Australian cricket?

Interesting that the Aussies are now out of the T20 World Cup - maybe they really need to look at the squad.

As much as Ponting is a good test and limited overs cricketer, possibly we could pick better for the new version of the game.

It is a different concept but Australia don't seem to be prepared to adapt, keeping the squad very similar to what would enter the field for the other, more traditional versions.

At least they now have time to focus on the Ashes Series ... or maybe this shock exit will play on their minds. It has certainly given the Poms good sledging material!!!

Andrew Symonds fall from grace...again!

It is amazing that someone with everything in front of them can stuff it up ....more than once!! What goes on in the monds of some of our top sportspeople. We see issues regularly with footballers and other top sporting celebrities - look at Ben Cousins and the Johns brothers.

I attended a seminar recently that discussed these issues and presented a possible solution. It was called "I Brand" - the personal brand identity. This aurgued that people who have an I-Brand are more likely to look after themselves and behave in line with their values. The key seemed to a simple, memorable two words that they used to decide issues. Apparently a similar thing has been used with Virgin - their two words are Revolutionary and Entertaining....I would be surprised if there was anyone who didn't agree that they were these two words!

Maybe national sports bodies like Cricket Australia, NRL and the AFL should look at this approach. If Andrew's words were respect and control it may have helped him to behave differently...who knows!

At least the leadership team voted on his removal making it less political and really giving kids the idea that this type of behaviour is totally unacceptable, even amongst your piers.

I felt for Ricky Ponting. He has stood by Andrew and I can imagine would feel let down...and then had to face the media.

Something needs to be done. It is not healthy for any sport, for the people involved or for the fans (especially the kids).
